Top Employer six years on the trot

14 Oct 2016
The Top Employers Institute announced last night that Old Mutual was ranked the leading Top Employer in Financial Services and Insurance in South Africa for the 6th year in a row, and strengthened its performance score from 98% to 99.3%.

To add to this prestigious ranking, Old Mutual was also certified as a Top Employer in Africa in 13 countries, thereby adding 5 more countries to its achievement of 2015. These countries are South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya (both UAP Old Mutual and Faulu Kenya) and Uganda.

Old Mutual Emerging Markets (OMEM) Human Resources Director Anisha Archary says she is delighted that Old Mutual continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading business on the African continent.

“As we prepare and ready our business for independence under the managed separation strategy announced by Old Mutual plc, we have the opportunity to develop long-term sustainable competitive advantage and outperform our peers. Being a consistent Top Employer places us in a very strong position to seize this challenge and achieve our aspiration of being Africa’s financial services champion.”

Archary says the company can be justifiably proud of its achievement to raise the bar year on year for the past six years. The company’s world-class HR practices, benefits, and compelling people vision have enabled the group to create an environment that attracts, inspires, develops and retains talent.

According to Archary, ‘Enabling positive futures’ is Old Mutual’s core purpose and promise to its customers, employees and the communities it serves. “This sense of purpose and our values-based and customer-centric culture are key elements of inspiring trust in our business. As a custodian of our customers’ savings and investments, we need to earn and maintain their trust, and safeguard our strong reputation as a trusted financial services provider. It also supports our responsible business strategy and reflects our commitment to being a good corporate citizen.”

She adds that receiving public recognition is always an honour and points out that this award bears further testimony to Old Mutual’s commitment to transform its workplace and drive socio-economic change in South Africa. Two weeks ago Old Mutual was awarded the 2016 Most Empowered Employment Equity Company Award at an annual event that celebrates the JSE’s 100 most empowered companies.
